Yesterday my hubby and I had a rare day off together so we took advantage of the opportunity. We dropped our son off at school and ran out for a quick duck hunt. The cold snap that we had here recently, temps around 15 degrees for several weeks, made my deer season more difficult but it has been great for our style of duck hunting. My hubby cannot sit still long hunting so he prefers to jump shooting over decoying. Since it has been so cold most of the ponds and smaller lakes are frozen over meaning that the ducks are moving to running water. So today we went jump shooting along some of our favorite creeks. I took a video of our first jump on the birds, but after that I wanted to shoot too so I only have one short video from the trip. Here is the result of that first jump:
We hunted along the creek for about an hour. Hubby had two opportunities and I also had two separate opportunities at ducks. He pulled a duck each time and I missed. I had bet hubby on the way in that I would get more ducks with the looser having to carry all the birds. Needless to say my pack was heavier than his.
I was bummed that I missed my birds, but you just cannot beat the view here:
Today was an amazing day (though I do need to do some skeet shooting to get back into my groove). We only had a few short hours in the field, but I'll take that over just about anything. Plus now we get to have duck for Christmas.
